« Lord Balarama is the first expansion of Lord Krishna, the first light which is ignited from the original light.
There is practically no difference in nature, but They have « different pastimes ». Balarama helps us to attain Krishna! How?
He takes the unlimited anarthas out of our hearts by plowing the field of our hearts with His transcendental plow.
Then we can hear Lord Krishna attractive flute and run to Him to answer His call.

Srila Prabhupada writes in this context:

« The first expansion of the unlimited forms of Krishna is Balaram, Baladeva.
In the Upanishads it is stated, nayam atma bala-hinena labhyah – Atma, the supreme soul, cannot be understood without being favored by Balaram. [...]
Bala-hinena means that one who is not favored by Balaram or Nityananda cannot make any progress to understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead. » [...]

Let us all join the festivities of Balaram Jayanti in New Mayapur – and have our hearts worked upon so that we can meet Krishna in this lifetime. »
